District 6040 supports scholarships for students to study outside of the United States in programs that support Rotary’s seven areas of focus. These scholarships include Global Grant Scholarships with awards ranging from $30,000-$70,000 to fund graduate level coursework or research for one to four academic years at an educational institution outside of the U.S. District Grant Scholarships provide a stipend of $2,500 for one or two semesters of undergraduate or graduate level coursework abroad.
A District Grant Scholarship has been awarded to Drew Arends, a student at Truman State University. Drew is a major in interdisciplinary study of environmentalism. At Truman, Drew has been involved in a variety of environmental clubs where he has served as treasurer and has led fundraising for environmental nonprofits. He also works in the sustainability office at Truman.
Drew will be studying at the University of Trier, Trier Germany from April through July 2023. The courses at the University of Trier will be at the graduate level and will be heavily focused on environmental sciences (Rotary’s Protecting the Environment area of focus) to learn how to sustain agriculture, fishing and aquaculture practices, advocating for sustainable consumption, and develop educational programs that promote behavior to protect the environment.
