District 6040 January DG Update – Club Visits, Leadership, and Celebrations Ahead

January has been a rewarding and energizing month as I’ve had the privilege of visiting many clubs across our district. Each visit has reinforced what I already know to be true—our strength lies in our people. I have been inspired by your service projects, your commitment to fellowship, and your dedication to making a difference in your communities. Thank you for the warm welcomes, meaningful conversations, and the work you do every day to live out the values of Rotary.

As we move forward, the next few months offer exciting opportunities for connection, learning, and celebration.

In March, we will come together for ShowMe Rotary PETS, https://showmerotary.org/, a vital step in preparing our incoming club leaders for a successful Rotary year. PETS equips leaders with the tools, relationships, and confidence needed to lead with purpose and vision. I strongly encourage all incoming presidents, president nominees and leadership team members to complete their registration and make plans to attend. Your participation is essential to the continued success of your club and our district.

April will bring us to one of the most anticipated events of the year—our District Conference. This gathering allows us to celebrate the impact of Rotary across District 6040 while strengthening the bonds of fellowship that unite us. This year’s conference is especially meaningful as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Shoes for Orphan Soles, recognizing a remarkable legacy of service and the countless lives changed through this extraordinary project. Stay tuned for more info and registration details early-mid February.

Thank you for your continued commitment to Rotary and to one another. I am honored to serve beside you as your District Governor and look forward to seeing many of you at PETS and in the months ahead.

Yours in Rotary,

Jodi Sundaram
District Governor, Rotary District 6040

RYLA Time

Would you and your Rotary club like to impact the lives of high school students in your community?  You can do just that by sponsoring local high school students to attend the Missouri RYLA Academy.

The Missouri RYLA Academy (MO RYLA) is a four-day/three-night service leadership academy that introduces Rotary’s “Service Above Self” philosophy.  The curriculum, developed and administered by professional educators, includes a personality self-assessment, team building activities, and a two-day service project simulation.  Our program is recognized by Rotary International as one of the model RYLA programs in the world, and was the only breakout session at the 2019 RI Convention in Hamburg, Germany.

MO RYLA has been going strong for over thirty years!  In the last three decades, over two thousand students statewide having participated.  Missouri Rotary Districts 6040, 6060, and 6080 partner to administer this premier academy.  The staff is comprised of professional high school guidance counselors, educators and outstanding Rotarians from around the state.  Registration is now open for the 2026 sessions. Go to missouriryla.com to get more information.

A memorable evening at 1587 Prime in Kansas City brought Rotary creativity to life—warm conversation, generous hosts, and joyful fellowship made this dinner with Rotary International President Nominee Larry and Jill truly unforgettable.

Rotary was featured in the KC Star.

Chris Roesel, special to the KC Star, recently wrote an article  with regards to Rotary's efforts to help provide clean water in Africa.  You can check out his guest commentary at https://www.kansascity.com/opinion/readers-opinion/guest-commentary/article314239853.html

4-Way Speech Contest

One of District 6040’s favorite events of the spring is the 4-Way Test Speech Contest. This is a unique way for Rotary Clubs to connect with high school students in their area and give them the opportunity to apply the 4-Way Test to their life. Each year these presentations encourage me and solidify my hope for future generations.
