The Rotary Club of Eastern Independence is hosting the 11th annual Independence Uncorked Wine Festival on September 14, 2024 from 1:00-6:00 p.m. on the grounds of the Historic Bingham-Waggoner Estate in Independence, MO. Independence Uncorked is the largest Missouri wine festivals in the state featuring 25 Missouri wineries sampling several of their wines, a guest spirits distiller, a cidery and 2400 attendees. The day will also feature art, music, beer, food booths and wine classes. The event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Eastern Independence and presented by Edward Jones.

A Word From The District Governor

It has been exciting to continue to travel across beautiful Northern Missouri to see our great clubs and their traditions, projects, and fellowship.

In August, whether it was the planning for the WineFest at Eastern Independence, the efforts to continue to grow membership in Bethany, the delicious food and fun atmosphere at East Clay (maybe the best food? Possibly?), the amazing service projects and leadership in Chillicothe, the big dreams to continue to enhance Perkins Park in Plattsburg, the small but mighty presence of Gallatin, or the always fun and inspiring Waldo-Brookside (also great food), the clubs and members of District 6040 are a testament to why Rotary is the best service organization in the world.

Here are a few dates coming up that I hope every club will participate in: Kandi Kos will be sending out a formal invite, but all Club Secretaries are invited to a Club Secretary training on September 24 via Zoom. This will be a great chance to learn about the new features of ClubRunner, learn best practices, and ask questions.

District Foundation Dinner

The planning process is well underway for the 22nd annual District 6040 Foundation Dinner. It will be held on November 9, 2024, at the Argosy Casino & Hotel in Riverside (in the Kansas City area). We will be raising money to support The Rotary Foundation because The Rotary Foundation, in turn, supports the district and our local clubs with money for grants and scholarships.

We will be recognizing some of the outstanding clubs in District 6040 and the program will include a keynote address by our own Larry Lunsford, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for The Rotary Foundation and member of the Kansas City Plaza club. There will be silent and live auctions and other fun activities to raise money for The Rotary Foundation. It will be a wonderful evening celebrating our accomplishments and supporting the Foundation.
