Rotary District 6040 Conference
Thank you to all that attended our District Conference last weekend. We had a fun Friday evening with rain, but we had a good time in the Dining Hall at the Rotary Youth Camp. The evening was sponsored by the Lee’s Summit Rotary Club, and the Kansas City Club provided the Smores. Great food was provided by Duetzel’s Catering and the drinks from Embrace the Grape, both companies owned by Rotarians in the Lee’s Summit Club. We did 2 Service Projects,  one being hygiene kits for kids for Coldwater and we also did some greeting and Birthday cards were made for the campers coming to the camp this summer. The Camp is for Special Needs kids and used all summer, and also different organizations, like Boy and Girls Scouts who use it during the other months of the year. We also got to see the second-round draft pick of the Chiefs, so that was exciting!

Our District’s annual Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls shoe drive led by our Shoes Cheerleader, Larry Lunsford, contributed a total collection this year 10,180 pairs of new shoes for vulnerable children. The shoes and over 12,000 pairs of socks, were picked up by the Rotary District 6040 caravan and shipped to nonprofit Buckner International. More than $32,000 in cash donations were also received. The shoes will be sorted and distributed by Buckner to children in countries like Guatemala and Dominican Republic.

Global Grants Can Be Fun!
Thinking about undertaking an International Project?  Global Grants are FUN! It is a great opportunity to meet Rotarians from around the world; even if it is via ZOOM. You get to tell your friends and neighbors how your Rotary club helps people thousands of miles away through your club's sponsoring a Global Grant. There is a great deal of satisfaction in helping a community thousands of miles away improve the quality of life for their neighbors too.  Rotary International wants to help District 6040 clubs find good International projects.

Rotary Foundation Update
The final months of the 2022-2023 Rotary year are a time to take urgent action and finish the year strong, by re-imagining what Rotary can do to make a difference in the world through the Rotary Foundation. The needs are great, and so is our capacity as Rotary members. Each of us has a passion for service and promises to keep – for peace, for life-saving surgeries, for clean water and for empowering girls’ education - as people of action who honor our commitments. Now more than ever, keeping our commitments and our promise to the children of the world by ending polio requires us all to be dreamers and doers.  Accept the challenge that President Jennifer has made to each of us to be a dreamer – to imagine a world without polio and to take the action needed to make that dream a reality. As a member of Rotary, you play an essential role in ensuring that Rotary Foundation programs can continue to create positive and lasting change in your community and around the globe.
