A Note from Julie McCoy

Our GSE Australian exchange was a huge success!

My thanks go to Melissa Koch, St. Joe East, for leading our US team across the pond.  I heard back from Kim Harvey, District Governor of District 9520, and they loved our team. Kim said they represented us well.  Kim’s district does not have an exchange set up for 2020 and due to the excitement our team created during their visit, they are now looking to get one set up as quickly as possible.  Thanks go to Susan McCambridge (Lee’s Summit), Lisa Deatherage (KC Plaza), Ashley Starrett (Unionville) and Cutter Gale (Lee’s Summit Sunrise) and Melissa for making District 6040 proud.

Here in North Missouri, Barbara Dolci, (KC Club 13) lead the way to set up the Inbound teams visit.  This was a very difficult exchange to set up for many reasons.  It was four weeks long and we were asked to set up 2 vocational days per week.  Some of the Australian team members had some unusual occupations.  I can tell you first hand that Barbara worked very hard to coordinate 11 host clubs as well as the vocation days and cultural and humanitarian visits.  And, she did it quite well.  Barbara even hosted the team at Club 13’s camp and kept one of our visitors in her home.  Thanks Barbara for all you did for our visitors in District 6040.  We appreciate your service and dedication to Rotarians from around the world.

My Chillicothe club had the team during Easter weekend and you can see from the picture, the Easter Egg Hunt with the team was a ton of fun.  I’d also like to thank Rolfe McCoy for spread heading and coordinating the inbound and outbound group study exchange activities.  My hat is off to you for leading the GSE efforts in our district.

Lastly, I’d like to thank the host clubs and host families.  The Australians had nothing but good things to say about their visit here.  So, thanks for making their stay a special one…one they will likely not forget.

You Are All My Inspiration,
Julie McCoy

District Establishes New Peacebuilding Ambassador

When District Governor Elect Marc Horner asked me to be District 6040’s Peacebuilding Ambassador, I imagined that, as an ambassador, I would hobnob with glitterati, attend swanky receptions and high-brow cultural events, rub elbows with the rich and famous, and advise powerful government officials.

It wasn’t until I was stuck behind a stinky semi on my way to Jeff City for the state conference that cold reality struck.

My name is Steven Youngblood, and I am breaking in the new job of district peacebuilding ambassador. While my new job isn’t exactly glamorous, the opportunity to work with my fellow Rotarians on peacebuilding projects is nonetheless exciting.

Taking Action Against Flooding

In March significant flooding was wrecking havoc in Nebraska and Missouri.  Rotarians by nature are very generous and always interested in helping with relief efforts, especially when they strike so close to home.  Our District 6040 Rotarians answered the call with donations of time and money.  Below is a photo album of just some of the action with Rotarians getting down and dirty to help.
