Around The District
A Moment for Peace
In this space each month, I hope District Rotarians will take a moment to think about PeacePerhaps in taking that moment, you will think about Peace differently.  And think differently about what you can do as an individual or a Rotary Club to bring about Peace. When Rotary first designated Peace and Conflict Resolution as an area of focus, I think many of us initially thought about Peace as…. War and Peace.  Something BIG and removed from anything we could influence.  But, studying the Rotary resources and club programs around Peace shows us there is much that can be addressed by us as individuals and through our Rotary Clubs.
Shoes for Orphan Souls
Greetings to each of you in the Rotary Clubs of District 6040! After another successful year of shoes collection for orphan and vulnerable children, I am honored to again serve as the Shoes Cheerleader for Rotary District 6040.  Thank you. While each year of this service project is great, our 23rd year will be special.  Rotary District 6040 will be joined by District 6060 and District 6080 in this year’s collection, and I am extremely excited about this development. Our District 6040 Governor, Randy Steinman, has encouraged the Rotary Clubs throughout the great state of Missouri to join the Shoes for Orphan Souls efforts.  District 6060 Governor Valerie Sorensen, and District 6080 Governor Jimmy Standfast, are joining Randy to spread the word as we hope to collect 50,000 pairs of shoes across the state of Missouri this year.
Making a Difference in Hawai'i

August 9, 2023 was a tragic day for our Rotarians, families and friends on the Island of Maui. The fires across the island have changed lives forever. Truly devastating. Our sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted. As people of action, we can take immediate action. As we come together to recover and rebuild, we need to support each other. We need to Create Hope for Maui.

Show Me Rotary Training
Please save the date for Show Me Rotary Presidents Elect and Nominee training to be held March 22 and 23, 2024.  This year’s event will be held at the University Plaza Hotel in Springfield and we have many exciting things planned for you this year.  We listened to the evaluations from last year and our entire focus this year will be on best practices for Rotary Clubs and how to make your Rotary club the best it can possibly be. District 6040 will also have 4 sessions focused on our local initiatives and support to clubs in our district.
Polio Plus Society Kicks Off
District 6040 is pleased to kick off the PolioPlus Society in an effort to increase sustainable giving.  The PolioPlus Society (PPS) was formed to encourage Rotarians to commit to a minimum of $100 per year to the PolioPlus Fund until polio is eradicated from the face of the earth. Any Rotary member in our District that pledges to give at least $100.00 per year by October 24th, 2023 to Polio Plus, may submit an Application and become a Charter member of the Polio Plus Society. If you have already given $100.00 or more since July 1st of this Rotary year, you can apply for the Membership and be a Charter Member of  our Polio Plus Society.

Project CURE
Project CURE
The Lee's Summit club is the International sponsor club working with the Nkwazi host club in Lusaka Zambia on Global Grant GG2344425. This grant will supply medical supplies and equipment to 23 different clinics in the greater Lusaka area.  These clinics provide medical services including birthing and operating suites, serve as feeders to the regional hospitals in Zambia.
Working with Project CURE; a 501c3 that is the world's largest distributor of donated medical equipment across the globe, this project will work to Improve these facilities which collectively serve well over 1 million Zambians. Our District 6040 Group Study Exchange team had the opportunity to meet with the Nkwazi Rotary club and visit a couple of these clinics on their visit in 2021.

These photos in the link above are from the recent visit to the clinics by Project CURE's assessor which is necessary to ascertain how Project CURE can help the facilities.
