Shoes for Orphan Souls

This will be the 22nd year of collecting shoes.  This year shoes will be going to Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.  The goal is to collect 15,199.  If we can achieve this goal, we will eclipse a cumulative amount of 400,000 pairs of shoes over these 22 years.  More details to come!

Rotary Theme 23-24

District Governor-Elect Randy Steinman is pleased to share the theme for the 2023-2024 Rotary Year will be Create Hope in the World.  The theme was announced by incoming Rotary International President-Elect, Gordon McInally at the International Assembly in January.  Below is a link to the video of Gordon's speech. Please take 20 minutes and watch the entire clip. It does a good job of defining why we are members of this amazing organization.

Words From DG Kent Shelman

I am working on finalizing the details on our District Conference on April 28 and 29th. On Friday April 28, we will have a Barbecue and campfire at the Rotary Youth Camp in Lee’s Summit. On Saturday we will have some morning activities and then in the afternoon we will have our Conference at the newly renovated Truman Library in Independence. We have a great speaker lined up and we will be having Shoes Roll Call at the Library. Final details and registration on these days along with hotel options will be coming out in the next week. Please save those dates for our District Conference!

We still have some funds available for a District Grant.  If you can get a project done this spring, the District still can match up to $2,500.00 towards a project. Contact Beth Franklin, our District Grants Chair who is with the Independence Club at 816-665-5054 or bethfranklin@kw.com.

Show Me Rotary

The Show Me Rotary President-elect and President-nominee trainings that are being held at the Capitol Plaza Hotel from the evening of Thursday, 3/23, Friday, 3/24, and Saturday, 3/25 in Jefferson City.

Show Me Rotary is a great experience and all Presidents-nominee (those serving as Club Presidents in the Rotary year 2024-2025) will have a chance to learn more about Rotary and to develop networks among Rotary across the district and across the state of Missouri. There will even be a session for just the 2024-2025 Club Presidents to hear from the 2024-2025 Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick, who will be the first woman from the United States to serve as the President of Rotary International. The Show Me Rotary schedule for Presidents-nominee (2024-2025) is attached.

Show Me Rotary is fun, inspiring, and educational. If your club does not yet have someone identified to serve as President for 2024-2025, now is the time to select somebody so that they can begin their training and planning for a successful year.

Online registration and hotel reservations can be found by visiting https://showmerotary.org/resources-schedules/. I look forward to meeting and working with our District 6040 Presidential class of 2024-2025 at Show Me Rotary.

All Rotarians in District 6040 who sign up as new participants in Rotary Direct and contribute at least $200 towards the Annual Fund of the Rotary Foundation between February 1 and June 1, 2023 will be entered into a lottery drawing where one lucky winner will acquire 800 bonus points to reach Paul Harris Fellow status.
