A Note From Our District Governor
The clubs across Northern Missouri (and across the world) have so many great programs going on, that sometimes we may not appreciate the full impact of everything Rotary does.
In September, I had the privilege of visiting several of the clubs in District 6040. Excelsior Springs has a fun group that is small, but very dedicated to their community and to Rotary. Gladstone has a lively and fun atmosphere in a great location (and rings the bell quite early in the morning!).
Lee’s Summit offered unrivaled hospitality through a reception with their board of directors the night before their regular meeting, which was quite a production with nearly 100 in attendance (and that’s where one goes to hear all of the latest happenings in town). The Lee’s Summit Club is active and has committees working on projects in community service, international service, local fundraising, The Rotary Foundation, youth services, membership, public image, and more… What a great group!
Independence showcased the monthly Rotary theme of Literacy by having a book review during the meeting (plus live music to kick off the planning for their Mardis Gras fundraiser). Higginsville was very welcoming and had a nice crowd, including 2 cute puppies. Parkville has great social media and web presence, as well as strong tradition of participation in Rotary Friendship Exchange, which our district is excited about relaunching this Rotary year (information will be sent out soon about our team that we will fill to travel to Africa)
Remember that October 24 is World Polio Day. Whether your club and members participate by donating to PolioPlus (through Purple Pinkie donuts or another way), holding and publicizing an awareness event, or by asking local elected officials to give a proclamation, there are numerous ways that everyone in the district can participate.
The Rotary Foundation Dinner on November 9 at the Argosy is quickly approaching. It’s not too late for clubs to sponsor a table or to donate silent auction items, or for individuals to purchase tickets to attend. Everyone is also invited to purchase a raffle ticket (online at
www.rotary6040.org). Larry Lunsford will be the keynote speaker, and members of the Paul Harris Society will be invited to mingle with Larry at the pre-dinner reception.
"The structure of world peace cannot be the work of one man, or one party, or one nation...it must be a peace which rests on the cooperative effort of the whole world."- Rotarian Franklin D. Roosevelt
