Spring 2023 Rotary Direct Lottery
All Rotarians in District 6040 who sign up as new participants in Rotary Direct and contribute at least $200 towards The Annual Fund of The Rotary Foundation between 2/1/23 and 6/1/23 will be entered into a Lottery drawing where one lucky Rotarian will acquire 800 bonus points to reach Paul Harris Fellow status.

District Grant Scholarships and Global Grant Scholarships
District 6040 supports scholarships for students to study outside of the United States in programs that support Rotary’s seven areas of focus. These scholarships include Global Grant Scholarships with awards ranging from $30,000-$70,000 to fund graduate level coursework or research for one to four academic years at an educational institution outside of the U.S. District Grant Scholarships provide a stipend of $2,500 for one or two semesters of undergraduate or graduate level coursework abroad. 
A District Grant Scholarship has been awarded to Drew Arends, a student at Truman State University. Drew is a major in interdisciplinary study of environmentalism. At Truman, Drew has been involved in a variety of environmental clubs where he has served as treasurer and has led fundraising for environmental nonprofits. He also works in the sustainability office at Truman.

Plaza Club Launches Microloan Program
The Rotary Club of Kansas City-Plaza today announces an economic equity program to provide microloans to fledgling entrepreneurs who are completing training with The Sewing Labs.
 
The program, RISE Microloan (for Rotary Investing & Supporting Equity), is offered through AltCap, a community development financial institution serving small businesses, with the support of CHES, Inc., a nonprofit financial empowerment organization. The program begins as a pilot with The Sewing Labs, a non-profit bringing sewing education to Kansas City, and will expand to other non-profit organizations that also provide training to prepare clients for entrepreneurship as a path to financial stability.

 The 10th Annual Independence Uncorked Wine Festival will be held on September, 9th, 2023 from 1:00pm-6:00pm on the grounds of the Historic Bingham-Waggoner Estate in Independence, MO. Independence Uncorked will be one of the largest Missouri wine festivals in the state featuring 20 Missouri wineries sampling several of their wines, a guest spirits distiller, and over 2500 attendees. The day will also feature art, music, beer, food booths and wine classes. The event is hosted by the Rotary Club of Eastern Independence. For more information go to www.IndependenceUncorked.com
