Our Rotary clubs across Northern Missouri continue to amaze and inspire.
Many of our clubs celebrated World Polio Day on October 24, and we are working on the final tally to be able to share how much was raised for Polio Plus. There were myriad ways in which clubs participated, including through Purple Pinkie Donuts, purple cookies, pints for polio events, and more. There were several proclamations presented by mayors, including in Lee’s Summit and St. Joseph. We even had 2 great looking End Polio billboards, one on I-35 and one on I-435, courtesy of Lamar Advertising.
Perhaps the biggest privilege of serving as District Governor is getting to visit each of our Rotary clubs. In October, I experienced the most spirited banter of Huntsville, learned a bit more about the community spirit of Weston and their Apple Fest, tasted the delicious lunch and learned about the service of the Macon County club (and later returned for the awesome Shrimp Fest, save the date for 9/20/25 for next year’s event), learned about the dedication to youth programs of the KCI Club (and learned that they were chartered 50 years ago by St. Joseph East), appreciated the small but very mighty Kearney club and their active schedule, tasted some great ribs and learned about the very philanthropic Richmond club, and assisted with the installation of 4 new members at the Kansas City South Club.
November is Rotary Foundation month across Rotary International, and here in District 6040, we will celebrate the generosity of our clubs and members, as well as the great projects funded through our Rotary Foundation, at the Rotary Foundation Dinner, held on November 9 at the Argosy. Even if you are not able to attend the dinner, everyone has a chance to participate in the Cabo San Lucas all-inclusive plus airfare provided raffle and the silent auction.
Another feature of the Rotary Foundation that everyone may not be familiar with is the Disaster Response Fund. District 6040 has sent in $2,500 to this fund this month so that there are adequate funds to assist with disasters around the world, including the recent hurricanes in the United States. The best thing about Rotary, in my opinion, is the ability to connect and serve both locally and internationally. Over the coming months, we’ll have more details about a delegation that will be visiting District 6040 in April from the nation of Georgia, as well as a Rotary Friendship Exchange (inbound and outbound) with South Central Africa.
