District 6040’s Foundation HOOP-la on November 4, 2023, 6-9 pm  
 
The Theme: District 6040 is taking a bold, new approach to our annual fundraising and recognition dinner. The event is active, and engaging, and will inspire every Rotarian in District 6040! Please plan to attend. You can expect to shoot some free throws, sit at the announcer’s table, play at other games, and see the greats of college basketball at the College Basketball Hall of Fame in Downtown Kansas City Missouri. Keynote Speaker:  Monika Lozinska is Rotary International's lead photojournalist.  Her photos, revolving around Rotary’s 7 Areas of Focus, will be featured at the event. She is originally from Krakow, Poland, and lives in Chicago, Illinois. Monika will go one on one in an interview with our emcee Rich Linden.  
 
Silent and live Auction: There will be a live auctioneer for a live auction and silent auction items. Please consider donating an item for the silent auction. Deadline 9/15/23

Activities during the event: There will be basketball games to play, photo booths for pictures, Sports Center Desk to experience broadcasting, and sports Trivia games. Place your feet in the mold of famous basketball players or see if your arm span is as wide as theirs.  Join in some competitive activities to help raise money.
 
Hotel Information:
There are many hotels in the area. The Committee has booked a block of rooms for the night of November 4th at the Hampton Inn and Suites, 1571 Main Street, Kansas City, Missouri, at a discounted rate of $189.00 plus taxes.  The hotel is within walking distance of the event venue.  Complimentary surface parking will be available across the street from the hotel. You’ll need to get a parking pass when you check in and prior to parking.   The hotel is centrally located to many of Kansas City’s downtown and Crossroads destinations. Homestay  - Another option available to Rotarians is a Homestay – in other words, stay with another Rotarian. If you would like to take advantage of this option, reach out to Ann Wilkinson wilkinson.ap@gmail.com or 913.220.8926 by September 30 with how many rooms you need.
 
Activities to do while in Kansas City:  
CHIEFS FOOTBALL after HOOP-la: Join District 6040 on Sunday morning for a Kansas City Chiefs watch party against the Miami Dolphins in an international game in Germany. Meet for the 8:30am kickoff at the outdoor watch party at Power and Light District on Sunday morning 11/5.
 
Plan to extend your HOOP-la fun by exploring some other Kansas City activities.  Here are a few:  The National WW1 Museum, The Negro League Museum, the 18th and Vine Jazz District, The Nelson Art Gallery, the shops at the Plaza, an art crawl at First Fridays in the Crossroads Art District, or bus tours starting at the Union Station (a favorite is the Gangster Tour on every Saturday at 10:00 am) See Visitkc.com for other ideas as the event draws near.
