Group Study Exchange

March 13, 2020: After consultation with my District Governor counterpart in D9210; Douglas Kantengo,  we have decided to postpone the inbound portion of our Group Study Exchange trip until mid October this Autumn.  This will allow them to visit us during the time of our District Foundation dinner on November 7, 2020.  Our outbound team is still scheduled to visit D9210 from July 15th to August 15th.  I apologize to those of you who have made plans for the D9210 teams arrival in April.

We understand the concerns that individual Rotarian's may have during this trying time  and they should consider their own unique situations with regard to any events. We also realize the importance of Rotarian's joining together to share and grow.

Yours in Rotary Service.
Marc Horner
District Governor
District 6040
Past President; Rotary Club of Kansas City 2011-2012

D6040, through the generous giving of D6040 Rotarians contributing to the Annual Fund/SHARE of The Rotary Foundation (TRF) instituted a New Model Group Study Exchange (GSE).  The New Model emphasizes training and experience in humanitarian service and vocational service for team members.

GSE provides travel grants for teams to exchange visits in paired areas of different countries.  Teams are comprised a Rotarian Team Leader and three to four team members who may be Rotarians or non-Rotarians.  All team members must commit to assist in humanitarian service projects and district education upon completion of the GSE experience.  The team leader is required to be a Rotarian in good standing.

GSE exchanges consist of three to four weeks, team members observe and participate in the Rotary District and Club humanitarian service projects and observe how their vocations are practiced abroad. They develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas.   The teams are home hosted for lodging, meals and group travel within the host country.  District 6040 pays for round-trip airfare to the host country.

District 6040 Rotarians host the inbound/visiting team by establishing the schedule according to guidelines agreed upon by both countries and providing home hosting and in-district transportation.

The 2018-19 GSE is with District 4060 in the Dominican Republic.  GSEs are under development for 2019-20 in District 9210 in Zambia/Mozambique.
