33 days until May 31st and Shoes Roll Call!
This year, our shoes will be going to the Dominican Republic and Guatemala.
Our District 6040 Governor, Erik McGuire from the Rotary Club of St. Joseph East, has been encouraging your Shoes efforts during his Club visits, and I appreciate his support for our 24th year this year.
I know I can count on each of your Rotary Clubs to participate at meaningful levels again this year. Promotional materials have been sent via email by our partners in Dallas at Buckner International to your club President. If any club wants these materials mailed to them, please provide the mailing address for the Rotarian you’d like to receive this helpful information.
Caravan Guru John Gill and I are working on this year’s Shoes Caravan --- allow me to give you a general outline for our timing this year, still being finalized ---
- Ensure you get all the promotional materials you desire. Collect as many pairs of shoes as possible.
- We may add “mini-caravan” options on Tues May 20, Weds May 21 or Thurs May 22. Can I assume our clubs would be ready for a shoes pickup by May 20th – I would like your club to respond to me with your thoughts?
- We will compliment the possible May 20-22 schedule with May 27-29 for a few “mini-caravan” routes to collect your shoes. Each evening, shoes will be housed at a warehouse in Liberty at the leadership of Liberty Rotarian Kimbal Mothershead.
- We may ask clubs close in proximity to Liberty to bring their shoes directly to the Liberty warehouse.
- Thursday, May 29 UPS drops trailer at Liberty warehouse
- Friday afternoon, May 30 local Liberty Rotary (and others) effort to load UPS trailer.
- District Conference in Kirksville May 30-31. We do plan for the clubs in our “Northeast Territory” to bring their shoes to Kirksville. I will be clear about which clubs we would plan to do this.
- Saturday, May 31 – our always exciting Shoes for Orphan Souls “Roll Call of Clubs” at lunch at the District Conference in Kirksville. It will be great to have each club represented.
- Monday, June 2 – drop off Northeast Territory shoes in Liberty. UPS with late afternoon trailer pick up at the Liberty warehouse to be transported to Dallas to the Humanitarian Aid Warehouse of Buckner International.
