Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years. Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever. Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by governments to contribute more than $10 billion to the effort.

Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

The KC South Rotary club held a cornhole event that raised $1,000 and with the District match and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation support, the club raised $4,500 to help fight polio.

The Parkville Rotary Club was issued a Proclamation by the City of Parkville.  The club also provided a $2,500 to District Governor Jodi Sundaram for Polio.

The St. Joseph East Rotary held a World Polio Day awareness event at River Bluff Brewery.

The South Side St. Joseph Rotary marked World Polio Day by baking and sharing 70 dozen purple cookies with South Side Schools, InterServ, and the Fire Station.

We want to hear from  your club on how your work to celebrate, raise funds, or bring awareness to World Polio Day in October. Send your club information to Kandi Kos, Executive Secretary Rotary District 6040, at rotary6040office@gmail.com
